Privacy policy

LearnPest is operated by Mensa Education, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“LearnPest,” “we,” “us”). LearnPest provides state-approved continuing education, licensing exam preparation, and training tools for licensed pest control operators and applicators. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run the platform and report your course completions to your state agency, we use your license details to remind you before deadlines, we never sell your data, and we delete your account on request.

Information we collect

  • Account details — your name, email address, phone number, and state.
  • License details — your license number, license type and category, issuing state, and expiration date. This is what lets us report your continuing education credits correctly and remind you before your license or renewal deadline.
  • Company affiliation — if your employer manages your training through LearnPest, we record which company and branch you belong to and who invited you.
  • Study activity — course progress, time spent in each section, quiz and exam attempts, scores, and completion dates. State agencies require accurate seat-time and assessment records, so we keep these faithfully.
  • Scout and other AI study tools — if you use Scout or another AI-powered feature, we keep the questions you ask, the answers you receive, and your practice results so that you can review them and so that we can improve the product.
  • Certificates — the certificates we issue when you complete a course, including the certificate number and the state-assigned course number.
  • Payment information — payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; we keep order records (what you bought, when, and for how much).
  • Communication preferences — whether you have chosen to receive marketing email or text messages, when you made that choice, and any unsubscribe requests.
  • Device and usage information — IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and referring site, collected through server logs and analytics and advertising cookies (on by default; can be turned off).
  • Support communications — messages you send us through the contact form or by email.

How we use it

  • To deliver courses, track progress, issue certificates, and run AI study tools such as Scout.
  • To report your completions and continuing education credits to the state regulatory agency that approves your license — this is the core purpose of the product.
  • To process purchases and subscriptions.
  • To send service messages: receipts, certificates, course progress, and license and renewal reminders timed to the expiration date on your account and your state’s renewal cycle.
  • To send marketing communications about courses approved for your state and license type, new products and features, and offers, subject to the choices described under “Reminder and marketing communications” below.
  • To choose what to show and send you, such as courses approved in your state, based on your state, license type, expiration date, and course history.
  • To respond to support requests.
  • To detect and prevent fraud, enforce our terms, and protect the integrity of the records we report to state agencies.
  • To understand how the site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it.
  • To measure and target our advertising, as described under “Cookies, analytics, and advertising” below.
  • To comply with legal obligations, including state recordkeeping and audit requirements.

Reminder and marketing communications

Service and reminder messages. As an account holder you will receive messages that are part of running your account: receipts, certificates, progress and completion notices, security notices, and reminders when your license expiration or renewal deadline is approaching. Reminders are timed to the license details on your account. You can adjust reminder timing in your account settings, but we may still send notices that are necessary to operate your account or that we are required to send. Opting out of marketing does not stop these messages.

Marketing email. We also send email about new courses approved for your state and license category, new products and features (such as Scout), and occasional offers. We tell you about this when you create your account, and you can decline at that point. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also change your preferences in your account settings or by emailing support@learnpest.com. We process unsubscribe requests within ten business days, and usually immediately.

Text messages. We send text messages only if you have separately opted in to them. Consent to text messages is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for help. Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-message opt-in data and consent are excluded from every sharing category in this policy and will not be shared with any third party, other than the provider that delivers our messages.

Employer-managed accounts. If your company manages your training on LearnPest, we may also send reminders about your license status and outstanding training to your company’s administrators.

How we choose what to send. We use the information on your account (your state, license type and category, expiration date, course history, and company) to decide which reminders and updates are relevant to you.

Who we share it with

  • State regulatory agencies — when you complete an approved course, we report your name, license number, the course, credit hours, the completion date, and certificate details to the relevant agency, as required for your credits to count.
  • Your employer — if your company manages your training on LearnPest, its administrators can see your enrollment status, progress, completions, and certificates.
  • Service providers — we use Stripe for payments, Google Cloud for hosting, an email delivery provider for email, and an SMS provider for text messages. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
  • AI providers — Scout and other AI features use third-party model providers to generate responses. They receive the content of your questions and the course context needed to answer them. We do not send them your license number or payment details, and they do not use your data to train their models.
  • Scout — if your subscription includes access to Scout, clicking through from your dashboard shares your basic account identity with Scout so you land signed in.
  • Affiliates — companies under common ownership with LearnPest that help us operate the platform, under the terms of this policy.
  • Advertising partners — Meta and Google receive the website activity described under “Cookies, analytics, and advertising” so that we can measure and target our ads. You can opt out as described there.
  • Legal and safety — when required by law, subpoena, or a government or state-agency request; to enforce our terms; or to protect the rights, safety, and property of LearnPest, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if LearnPest is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in who is responsible for your information.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share website activity with Meta and Google for advertising as described under “Cookies, analytics, and advertising,” and you can opt out at any time.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, a cookie that remembers which state’s pages to show you, and a cookie that records your cookie-banner choice. We use cookies and similar technologies for analytics (to understand how the site is used) and advertising (to measure our ads with partners such as Google and Meta). Both are on by default. You can turn either off at any time in the cookie banner or on the Your Privacy Choices page, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals automatically. The advertising tools collect your IP address, device and browser identifiers, the pages you visit, and events such as signing up or completing a purchase and, if enabled, a hashed version of your email address, and send them to Meta and Google so that we can measure our ads and show LearnPest ads to you and to people like you on their platforms. Meta and Google may combine this with information they hold about you under their own privacy policies. Under California law and some other state laws this counts as “sharing” personal information for targeted advertising. You can opt out at any time by turning off advertising cookies in the banner, through the “Your Privacy Choices” link in our footer, or by sending a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, which we honor as an opt-out. We never send your license number, license category, study records, or payment details to advertising platforms, and mobile phone numbers and text-message opt-in data are excluded from this sharing.

Security

We protect your information with measures appropriate to its sensitivity: encryption in transit, access controls that limit who at LearnPest can see your data, hosting on Google Cloud with its security protections, and payment processing by Stripe so that card numbers never touch our systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

How long we keep it

Completion records and certificates are retained for as long as state recordkeeping rules require — agencies can audit continuing education years after the fact, and your certificates need to stay retrievable. Other account data is kept while your account is active. Records of your communication choices are kept for as long as they are needed to honor them. When you delete your account, we remove your account data within 30 days, except for the completion and certificate records we are required to retain.

Your choices and privacy rights

  • You can view and update your account and license details from your dashboard.
  • You can change your email and text-message preferences in your account settings, through the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by emailing support@learnpest.com.
  • Analytics and advertising cookies are on by default; you can turn either off at any time in the cookie banner, and opt out of advertising sharing at any time through the “Your Privacy Choices” link in our footer.
  • You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing support@learnpest.com. We honor deletion requests, except for completion records we are required to retain for state reporting and audit purposes.

State privacy rights. Depending on where you live, state law (including the laws of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and other states) may give you the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to receive a copy in a portable format, to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights. To opt out of sharing for targeted advertising, use the “Your Privacy Choices” link in our footer or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. For all other requests, email support@learnpest.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We will verify your identity by confirming details associated with your account, and we respond within the time state law requires (generally 45 days). If we decline a request, we will explain why, and you may appeal by replying to our response. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with your written permission.

Children

LearnPest is a professional licensing platform and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page, note the new date at the top, and let you know by email or by a notice in the platform before the change takes effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
